At Moto Transportation, we know that shipping furniture with a trucking company can be one of the most challenging methods of freight shipping, due to the fragile nature of the goods. That is why our team of freight shipping experts have put together some advice on the best ways to ship furniture as freight.
The most common way to ship furniture is to make sure it is palletized and/or packaged well against the freight handling environment. Some other ways to ensure your shipment does not get damaged is to make sure it is loaded in the nose of the trailer or not transferred from the shipper to consignee. Blanket wrapping is also a popular method to ensure the furniture arrives as it was shipped, but nothing beats crating your shipment in a custom built crate or liftvan.
If the furniture is shipped loose, make sure it is handled manually with a hand truck or dolly.
It is important to note that used furniture is not insured in a general freight transport environment as the condition is very tough to verify prior to shipping. If shipped loose, a moving company or van line is the best method for transporting these goods.
To ship furniture via LTL freight, you will have to choose your carrier carefully. Making sure you are prepared to have a large semi-truck access the pick up and/or drop off location. Trucking companies typically will not provide white glove service and only pick up and deliver to curbside, it will be a good idea to have the proper amount of labour available to load and unload your shipment.
Moto Transportation regularly handles newly manufactured furniture and can assist you with your next shipment.
