From day one Moto has been set up with redundancy in mind. All of our systems are cloud-based and most of our staff work from home as we are spread out throughout North America. However, with all our communication channels, we barely notice that we are doing something most businesses don’t already do.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, more and more of our customers and vendors have been forced to move their operation home and we know that it has been difficult so we thought we’d share some tricks on working remotely to help you continue business without being interrupted.
Here are some tips our staff shared when we asked them how they do it:
1. Get Dressed
Try to avoid working in your underwear, get ready for the day as normal and enjoy not commuting. Write down your to-do list and get after it!
2. Embrace It
Welcome to the future! Our staff often state that they get way more done in a day working from home.
3. Set up a Comfortable Space
Try to take your office chair home and create a workspace with a proper desk if possible. The wrong workspace often creates productivity issues. Get creative! You spend a lot of time working so it is nice to enjoy the space you are in.
4. Strong Internet
Having a high-speed stable connection is paramount, upgrade as soon as possible. Some of our offices have two separate connections to make sure we never go down.
5. Great Lighting
If your space does not have natural light, make sure to create a bright space with the right inside lighting.
6. Keep your space clean and organized
If your desk is a mess at work then change your habits! Keep it clean at home.
7. Get a lock on your door
Right now you may have kids or other people at home, in or near your workspace. Let your family know that you need to have your door closed in order to get things done, kids might not be understanding of this so you may require a lock to get the peace you need.
8. Two Monitors
We have been hauling a ton of monitors for our customers lately as most people use at least two monitors for today’s technology. Make sure your home station mimics your work station.
9. Exercise
Use the time you would have spent commuting to exercise, meditate or stretch. At the minimum take your lunch break and go for a walk. You move less working from home as there is less social office activity. Spend some time with your dog!
10. Meet Regularly
Use your calendar to regularly schedule video meetings with your colleagues and departments. We use zoom and google calendar to hold daily meetings and we use google hangouts to instant message regarding anything that comes up during the day.
We hope these tips help you and your company find remote success, and maybe when this is all over you won’t want to go back to working from the office. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to your account manager, we are happy to help in any way we can!
